HOW TO TELL IF YOU NEED TEAR TROUGH FILLER

In our clinic in Crosby, patients express concerns with looking "tired" all the time no matter how much sleep they have due to the appearance of the under-eye area. Common causes for these dark circles and under-eye hollowing include allergies (constant rubbing of the eye area), ageing (loss of collagen and elasticity in both this area and the mid-face), lifestyle choices (alcohol intake and smoking), lack of sleep, sun damage and genetics.

WHAT DOES TEAR TROUGH FILLER TREAT?

Tear trough filler treatment helps to reduce dark circles under the eyes, adds volume to improve the appearance of hollowing or grooves in the area, rejuvenates tired eyes, reduces lines and wrinkles, improves the overall skin quality and results in a fresher brighter and less-tired appearance.

AM I SUITABLE FOR TEAR TROUGH FILLER?

When patients present in clinic with concerns around the tear trough area we assess the full face and often recommend mid-face support in the form of cheek contouring first. This treatment uses hyaluronic acid dermal filler to support the fat pads in the cheek area which in turn lifts the descended volume and supports the under-eye area, indirectly treating the problem. Depending on the severity of the tear trough this may actually resolve the issue. However if there is still some correction required, the tear trough can then be injected directly and carefully. Injecting the tear trough with dermal filler before supporting the mid-face can lead to over-filling of the area, an unnatural appearance and sometimes complications.
After your tear trough treatment we may recommend you use the Obagi Elastiderm Serum with rollerball as part of your aftercare.

WHAT CAN I USE INSTEAD OF TEAR TROUGH FILLER?

If your dark circles are caused by a pigmentation (discolouration) issue you may be recommended a course of our Enerpeel® Eye and Lips skin peel, since dermal fillers do not improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation. If you're not sure how to tell, hold a mirror and look up so that bright overhead lighting hits you directly. If the shadow disappears, your dark circle is caused by a hollow. If the colour is still there, it’s pigment.

If dermal fillers aren't for you, we may recommend the Endymed Skin Tightening or Endymed Fractional Skin Resurfacing treatment as alternative treatment options.

TEAR TROUGH FILLER BEFORE AND AFTER

This 33 year old patient presented in our clinic in Crosby with concerns of dark circles under her eyes and she felt that she looked tired constantly no matter how much sleep she had or what time of day it was. On examination we initially recommended mid-face support with cheek augmentation as the first stage of her treatment plan and a few weeks later at the second stage she had tear trough treatment using a cannula. The results can be seen at 3 weeks post tear-trough treatment, the patient was delighted that her under-eye area now looks fresher, brighter and more youthful, she no longer sees the "tiredness" or the dark circles she described at her consultation.
