WHAT CAN MICRONEEDLING DO?

Microneedling is a great treatment; suitable for skin tightening, lifting and rejuvenation, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and minimising pore size. It has also shown fantastic results in the treatment of scars and stretchmarks.

HOW DOES MICRONEEDLING WORK?

Unlike other methods of skin remodelling and rejuvenation like chemical peels and laser treatments, the microneedling pen causes minimal damage to the surface of the skin. Instead the needles allow the release of a natural growth factor within our skin, which breaks down old collagen and stimulates new collagen and elastin.

The microneedling pen is less traumatic than the traditional manual microneedling derma-roller and results in a more comfortable treatment, faster recovery time and better outcomes. Prior to treatment you will have a skin consultation to determine your areas of concern and discuss your medical history with one of our team at our clinic in Liverpool. This will enable us to determine the best treatment plan for you.

You may be asked to commence a specific skin care regime prior to your treatment which will be explained in full and the most appropriate medical-grade skin care products will be provided.

WHAT TO EXPECT: MICRONEEDLING BEFORE AND AFTER

This 30 year old patient presented in clinic with concerns around increasingly noticeable fine lines and wrinkles and scarring from acne as a teenager. Her main aim was to see an improvement in these areas in time for her wedding the following year. We used a combination of 6 Microneedling sessions in combination with Mandelic Peels across the full face and introduced some Obagi Skincare into her daily skin routine to achieve these results.

FAQs

  • What can microneedling do for your face?

Microneedling is a multi-function treatment that uses small needles to cause tiny punctures in the skin. This treatment encourages the body to create a wound healing response and renew the skin cells. As your skin repairs, it increases collagen production and elasticity in the skin. This helps to improve fine lines and wrinkles, skin tone, texture, scars and reduce enlarged pores.

  • How long does it take to recover from microneedling?

The skin will look inflamed, it may feel hot and be sensitive for several hours after treatment. Some people experience itching and tightness.

Some people peel/flake 3-5 days following treatment. You will start to see results around 6-8 weeks following treatment and these results will improve further over time.

  • Can I have microneedling if I'm pregnant?

It is not recommended for you to have a microneedling treatment whilst pregnant or breastfeeding. There have been no clinical studies to determine the safetiy of these treatments for the baby. As well as the topical anaesthetic applied at the start of treatment which may enter the blood stream, the skin is also very sensitive during this time and there is an increased risk of infection. Speak to our specialists to find out more about our pregnancy/breastfeeding friendly skin treatments.

  • What helps the skin after microneedling?

It is important to follow the aftercare advice provided following your microneedling treatment. If in doubt please ask your clinician.

  • Can I do microneedling at home?

Devices for home use have shorter, more blunt needles than those designed for in-clinic treatments.

Home devices are not designed to penetrate the skin, which means there will be limited response and therefore results will not be as good. However, they will increase blood flow, which may temporarily brighten the skin.

Unfortunatley, these devices are more difficult to clean, and not thoroughly cleaning a microneedling device can increase the risk of infection or injury, especially if the needles do penetrate the skin.
