WHERE DOES ACNE COME FROM?

Acne is a long-term skin condition that occurs when dead skin cells and oil from the skin clog hair follicles. Typical features of the condition include blackheads or whiteheads, pimples, oily skin, and possible scarring. It primarily affects skin with a relatively high number of oil glands, including the face, upper part of the chest, and back. The resulting appearance can lead to anxiety, reduced self-esteem, and, in extreme cases, depression. Although the causes of acne are unclear, hormones called androgens appear to be part of the underlying mechanism, by causing increased production of sebum. Another common factor is the excessive growth of the bacterium Cutibacterium acnes, which is present on the skin.

HOW DOES SALICYLIC ACID WORK?

EnerPeel® Salicylic (SA) uses 30% salicylic acid and has been designed to break down oil and surface debris in acneic skins, while also introducing the three key ingredients to control inflammation, kill bacteria, reduce oil production and normalise excess skin cell production.

WHY IS SALICYLIC GOOD FOR THE SKIN?

EnerPeel® SA addresses specific issues for sufferers of acne. The Salicylic Acid reduces oil production, increases exfoliation of the follicles and controls the inflammatory phase characterised by the presence of papules and pustules. Triethyl Citrate and Ethyl Linoleate are delivered with the peel to control bacterial colonisation, specifically Cutibacterium acnes and also the inflammatory process.

A clinical study using 4 EnerPeel® SA peels 2 weeks apart in conjunction with topical skincare regime took place across 5 University hospital, on patients whose resistant acne was defined as unresolved after being treated with prescription medication for 12 months. The results showed acne cases were resolved in 84% of the participants.

As with all of our skin treatments, patients are required to have a skin consultation including skin analysis prior to any skin treatment recommendation.

WHY DO WE USE ENERPEEL®?

The Aesthetics Hub® are proud to use EnerPeel® as their premium skin peel in their clinic in Crosby Village, Liverpool. EnerPeel® is a premium skin peel, the different acids can be used across different areas of the face and body independently. Our clinicians are therefore able to tailor the composition of the peel for each individual area, resulting in a bespoke treatment. EnerPeel® also use patented technology which allows the solution to penetrate the skin, rather than activating on the surface of the face, resulting in greater collagen remodelling. This results in reduced redness post treatment and up to 50% less peeling than a traditional peel. This means our patients experience less downtime during their recovery.

FAQs

  • I'm allergic to aspirin can I have a salicylic peel?

No. Aspirin belongs to a family of compounds called the salicylates, the simplest of which is salicylic acid. You cannot have a salicylic acid peel if you are allergic to aspirin.

  • What is the best treatment for acne?

There are various treatments available for patients with acne, recommendations will depend on the presentation including severity and the reasons behind the acne.

Some treatment options include prescription only skincare such as the Clenziderm System or Tretinoin, prescription-only medication such as antibiotics or the contraceptive pill or treatments such as  Salicylic acid or Pyruvic Acid peels.

  • Can Salicylic lighten the skin?

No, salicylic acid does not fall into the category of skin lighteners. However, since exfoliation is increased, your skin may become brighter and more even following treatment.
