WHAT IS HYPERPIGMENTATION?
Hyperpigmentation is a skin condition where brown spots or patches on the skin appear following the overproduction of melanin (the pigment that gives our eyes, skin and hair it's colour). This increase in melanin can often be triggered by increased sun exposure, hormonal influences, age, skin injury or inflammation.
WHAT IS A JESSNER PEEL?
EnerPeel® Jessner’s peel is named after the inventor and contains a cocktail of 3 acids; 15% Salicylic Acid, 20% Lactic Acid, 14% Resorcinol.
Lactic acid and resorcinol components specifically treat skin damage caused by moderate acne, hyperpigmentation, pregnancy mask and melasma. Resorcinol interrupts the process of pigment formation by ‘attracting’ the enzyme tyrosinase to it and preventing it from converting tyrosine to melanin. Lactic acid also slows down the activity of the enzyme and so adds to the pigment reducing action and the exfoliation helps to remove existing pigmentation.
The salicylic element of the chemical peel opens up clogged pores and reduces oil production. The EnerPeel® Jessner peel can be both a superficial or a medium depth peel depending on the number of layers applied during the treatment. The treatment leaves the skin looking younger, lighter and fresher than before.
As with all of our skin treatments, patients are required to have a skin consultation including skin analysis prior to any skin treatment recommendation.
