Dermal Filler; It's not always what it seems.

Abbey McLaughlin

Abbey, The Aesthetics Hub Independent Nurse Prescriber was delighted to be invited to Allergan's exclusive industry event in London at the end of February; The Visionary MD Codes™

Last year we introduced the MD codes™ to our clinical practice, allowing us to optimise patients facial features with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, creating natural results. Cheeks, chins, lips, jawlines have been our main focus, using specific products and amounts in targeted areas.
This year The Visionary MD Codes™ event brought together the knowledge from the previously attended MD Codes™ together with patient motivations and our expert clinical assessment to achieve the best results.
Quite often a patient will present in Clinic with an area of concern, for example deep nose-to-mouth lines, there is an automatic assumption that this is the area that should be treated directly, however our knowledge of anatomy and the ageing process has shown that these folds are present due to a loss of volume in the mid-face (cheeks) and therefore the clinical indication would be the cheeks and not the naso-labial folds. With dermal filler, its not always what it seems...
During every consultation it is essential that the patients concerns are discussed in detail including how they feel about this area and what they would like to achieve (e.g. look less tired, look less angry, look less sad). It is then essential that the practitioner explains in detail how this can be achieved using their expert knowledge and opinion and a treatment plan can be formed.
We will be introducing a new consultation process in the clinic in order to incorporate this new approach and to achieve the best results for our patients.
