HOW INTENSE PULSE LIGHT (IPL) WORKS

The light emitted by the Lynton EXCELIGHT® device is absorbed by melanin within the hair, which is then converted into heat energy and destroys the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding tissues. Treatment is suitable for both the face and body.

WHO IS SUITABLE FOR IPL HAIR REMOVAL?

Both men and women (Skin type 1-5) who have excessive hair and detest the thought of tweezing, waxing or shaving can be a perfect candidate for IPL hair removal. Best results are often achieved with patients who have fair skin and dark hair. Dark hair is more easily treated as it has a high concentration of melanin. Fair hair contains less melanin and is harder to treat. Grey/white hair has no melanin so is not suitable for treatment. We recommend a consultation with our Aesthetician to ascertain if the treatment will be successful for you. 

DOES IPL HAIR REMOVAL HURT?

Treatment sensation varies but you can  feel what is described as the ‘hot flick’ of an elastic band during treatment. However, thanks to DynamicReflex® Technology, most clients describe the discomfort as moderate and tolerable.

FAQs

  • How often should I have IPL hair removal?

    The number of sessions required varies from patient to patient and is dependent on many factors. Results can be seen after just a few treatments. However, a minimum of 6 and up to 12 treatments, are recommended to deliver the best results.

  • Who is suitable for IPL hair removal treatment?

    Most people are suitable for treatment. We recommend a consultation with our aesthetician to ascertain if the treatment will be successful for you. Grey/white hair has no melanin so is not recommended for treatment.

  • Is IPL hair removal safe in pregnancy?

    Whilst there is no direct link between IPL hair removal and negative effects on the mother or baby, there is also no evidence to guarantee it is safe. Therefore we advise all our pregnant or breastfeeding patients to avoid IPL hair removal until they are no longer pregnant/breastfeeding.
